WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS CHOOSE WITH CARE
You are eligible for the medical, vision, and dental benefits described in this guide if you are a Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority regular career or non-career term employee who works at least 20 hours per week. Your dependents are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage if they are your:
• Legally married spouse;
• Domestic partner( subject to imputed income)
• Children, until the end of the month in which they reach age 26;
• Unmarried children of any age who: – You claim as dependents on your income tax return; and – Have a permanent physical or mental handicap that began before age 19; and – Became handicapped while covered under this Plan or any other group plan;
• Children who are otherwise eligible and who are alternate recipients under a Qualified Medical Child Support Order.
Subject to the above requirements, your children include:
• Your natural children;
• Your stepchildren;
• Legally adopted children( beginning on the date the legal adoption proceedings started) and children placed for adoption; and
• Other children related to you by blood or marriage( such as grandchildren), provided the children live with you and you have been awarded legal guardianship, until the end of the month in which they turn age 18.
Make your benefit elections carefully, including the choice to waive coverage, because your tax-free elections for medical, dental and vision benefits and your FSAs will remain in effect until December 31, 2026, unless you make a change following an IRS-approved qualifying change in status. Qualifying change in status events include, but are not limited to:
• Marriage, divorce, or legal separation
• Death of a spouse or other dependent
• Birth, adoption of a child, or placement for adoption
• A spouse’ s employment begins or ends
• A dependent’ s eligibility status changes due to age
• You or your spouse experience a change in work hours that affect benefit eligibility
• Relocation into or outside of your plan’ s service area
Changes you make must be consistent with the event. For example, if your child loses medical eligibility based on age, you could drop the dependent from coverage but not change your medical insurance. You must make any change in Workday plus attach supporting documentation within 31 days of the qualifying event.
SPECIAL ENROLLMENT RIGHTS
You may choose not to enroll in the Airports Authority medical benefits when you first become eligible because you have coverage through another source. If the other coverage ends, you may enroll in Airports Authority’ s medical, dental and vision benefits, provided you enroll within 31 days of when the other coverage ends.
If you gain a new dependent through marriage, birth, adoption, or placement for adoption, you may add this dependent to your medical, dental and vision coverage, provided you enroll your dependent within 31 days of the marriage, birth, adoption, or placement for adoption.
Dependent Verification
When you add a dependent to your coverage( and periodically after that), you will be required to prove your dependent’ s eligibility. Acceptable documents include a marriage certificate, birth certificate, adoption certificate, prior year federal tax return, or another similar document showing that your dependents meet the Airports Authority eligibility requirements. If you do not verify your dependent by the due date, the unverified dependent will be terminated from the plan.
